Seward

Seward - Day 39 - 29 July 2016

Seward is the port for Anchorage which is about a 3 hour drive.

We had an 8.5 hour private tour  organised with Major Marine Tours to the Northwestern Fjord and glaciers.  We set off at 9am with no real hassles.  We were then offered freshly cooked berry muffins which were well received.  The weather was not ideal with squalls of rain and a very cold icy wind coupled with quite a bit of swell which made walking around the boat quite difficult and taking photos even harder!

The cruise travelled through Resurrection Bay, Kenai Fjords National Park, the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge (aka Chiswell Islands), Granite Pass, Harris Bay and into the spectacular Northwestern Fjord.

Our boat was the 58ft M/V Viewfinder which had viewing areas at the front and the back.  A deli style lunch was served with a cold drink.

Enroute to the glacier we did spot some humpback whales, seals, sea lions, otters, eagles and many types of birds.

We arrived back to the port in time for us to checkout the local shops and make use of the free internet wherever we could find it before walking back to the ship.

Our next stop is Icy Strait Point after one day at sea.
