Bay of Islands

Bay of Islands, NZ - Day 72   - 1st September 2016

We woke to another perfect day in the making…. the sun was shining, the air was crisp but there was a fog that the Captain promised would burn off as the sun intensified.

The popular destination of the day was to Russell which was a short ferry ride from the harbour.  We have been to the Bay of Islands at least twice before which also included a visit to Russell so decided to hang about in town.

As this was a tender port it took longer to get off the ship than normal.  Once we arrived at the dock there was a free shuttle bus that took us on a 10 minute ride into the main town area.

The local market was on in the park which had a lot of good quality local handicrafts on sale.  After perusing the markets we then scoured the souvenir shops before sitting on a park bench at the library making good use of their free wifi.

A meat pie from the local bakery was lunch before heading to the rest of the shops and then ending up at a bar/restaurant overlooking the water in the afternoon sun.  Of course a glass of wine and a cold beer was enjoyed while sitting back and taking in the view.

After our rest we decided to walk back to the tender which took around 30 minutes.

Another successful day in port and our last sailaway!

Two days at sea before Sydney when our fabulous 75 day cruise will come to an end.

What an amazing adventure we have had!
